Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon — Domaine des Cassagnoles (France)This great value wine shows remarkable aromatic complexity. A common white blend in the region, the two grape varieties complement each other perfectly and the result is surprisingly fresh. It is a lively wine, with an expressive nose and complex mouthfeel.
Pinot Grigio — Venetio (Italy)Italy's most popular white varietal by far. Straw yellow in colour, with a fruity nose that has hints of hazelnuts. The wine is light bodied, fruity with well balanced acidity.
Chardonnay — Terranoble (Chile)Lightly oaked chardonnay revealing some pleasant butterscotch. Thankfully, the oak is light enough to allow the tropical fruit to show through. Medium bodied on the palate with a creamy texture and a taste of butter and fruit. The balanced acidity helps carry the flavours through to a fruit filled lingering finish.
Red Wine | ||
Valpolicella Classico — Righetti (Italy)Aromatic wine showing lovely cherry fruit flavours enhanced slightly by the dried fruit flavours commonly known in the bigger Amarone produced in the same region. Also note the hallmark white pepper on the finish.
Shiraz — Kingston Estate (Australia)Classic rich and full Aussie Shiraz. Aromas and flavours of dark raspberry compote, blackberry, violets with some eucalyptus and black licorice. Soft tannins and a lingering toasty oak finish round out the wine.
Cabernet Sauvignon — Halstead (California)A cornucopia of aromas and flavours that include chocolate covered cherries, zesty cranberry and kirsch liqueur. Medium to full bodied, a supple texture and soft tannin for structure. The lingering finish delivers more of the same along with some mint and good moderating zest for balance.
Malbec — Terra Rosa (Argentina)Malbec - a grape once very popular in southwest France - is now the backbone to Argentina's steady growth in international markets. This is an inky wine, rich in minerality, full of dark fruit flavours, graceful, spicy, and exotic.
